Git and GitHub Assignment

Briefly explain the Git & GitHub concepts you’ve learned so far (like repository basics, status, staging, commits, history, branching, merging, etc.).

✦ Imagine you’re explaining these ideas to a 10th-grade student, so use simple words and easy-to-understand examples or analogies.
✦ Also, think like a DevOps/Cloud engineer – sometimes applications fail, and while you may not fix the app code itself, you need to look into code snippets, logs, or commit history to understand what went wrong.
✦ For example: a wrong database connection string in code will show up in logs, and using Git history you can check who changed it and when.

Concepts I have learned and Understand

What is Git ?

Git is a distributed version control and source code management system. It helps developers track and manage different versions of a project’s source code. Git also makes it easier to collaborate with others, maintain a history of changes, and even serve as a backup for source code.

Version: different iteration of same things

Key Notes:

Repository :Repisitory is like a folder where all your project files and their history are strored
Status :status shows what files we have changed but not yet saved in history. we can use 'git status' command to check the status
Staging : Staging is like packaging your clothes before putting them in suitcase, we need to prepare a files before saving them.
Commit :A commit is like taking a snap of project at a certain time, so you can always look back. it also includes message during commit. we can use 'git commit -m [message]' command to write commit.
History : git log commands lets us travel back in time and see who made changes and when.
Branching :It is like making a copy of your notebook to add new notes without disturbing the main one. Developers often use this concepts to add extra features and fixed the bugs without disturbing main source code
Merging :Merging is like putting those new notes back into the main notebook once you're happy with them. Developers create a new features and create pull requests which will check by repo maintainer.
